So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin that holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us.
Hebrews 12:1 GNT

“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, they succeed.”
Proverbs 15:22

“When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king: “What share do we have in David, what part in Jesse’s son? To your tents, Israel! Look after your own house, David! So the Israelites went home. But as for the Israelites who were living in the towns of Judah, Rehoboam still ruled over them. King Rehoboam sent out Adoniram, who was in charge of forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death. King Rehoboam, however, managed to get into his chariot and escape to Jerusalem. So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.”
1 Kings 12:16-19 NIV

Select your friends wisely because your choice of friends will form who you are.

“Fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
Proverbs 1:7

Fools take pleasure in pursuing the wrong things and they scoff at living wisely.

“Now David’s son Absalom had a beautiful sister named Tamar. And Amnon, her half brother, fell desperately in love with her. Amnon became so obsessed with Tamar that he became ill. She was a virgin, and Amnon thought he could never have her. But Amnon had a very crafty friend—his cousin Jonadab. He was the son of David’s brother Shimea. One day Jonadab said to Amnon, “What’s the trouble? Why should the son of a king look so dejected morning after morning?” So Amnon told him, “I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”“Well,” Jonadab said, “I’ll tell you what to do. Go back to bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, ask him to let Tamar come and prepare some food for you. Tell him you’ll feel better if she prepares it as you watch and feeds you with her own hands.”
2 Samuel 13:1-5 NLT

“Absalom told his men, “Wait until Amnon gets drunk; then at my signal, kill him! Don’t be afraid. I’m the one who has given the command. Take courage and do it!” So at Absalom’s signal, they murdered Amnon. Then the other sons of the king jumped on their mules and fled. As they were on the way back to Jerusalem, this report reached David: “Absalom has killed all the king’s sons; not one is left alive!” The king got up, tore his robe, and threw himself on the ground. His advisers also tore their clothes in horror and sorrow. But just then Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimea, arrived and said, “No, don’t believe that all the king’s sons have been killed! It was only Amnon! Absalom has been plotting this ever since Amnon raped his sister Tamar. No, my lord the king, your sons aren’t all dead! It was only Amnon.”
2 Samuel 13:28-33 NLT

“Do not be fooled. "Bad companions ruin good character."
I Corinthians 15:33 GNT

You cannot control who your co-workers or family members are, but you can control who you choose as your friends.

“Jesus said to them, “Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
Matthew 16:6

Some people are like leaven, just a little bit of their influence can affect our whole character.

“For this reason, a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
Genesis 2:24

He who walks with the wise grows wise.

“The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life.”
Proverbs 3:14

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another.”
Hebrews 10:24-25

What was in our life in the old season, may need to be let go for what God wants to do in us in the new season.

“But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.”
1 Corinthians 5:11 ESV
