Fence Riders – Those Who Play Both Sides

Our world today teaches that the greatest value is tolerance - the view that no one should force his or her value system on anyone else.

It is popular today to sit on the fence and to be non-committal.

Sometimes Compromise Is Good

You Cannot Sit On The Fence When It Comes To Jesus

“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”
Matthew 12:30

God does not take pleasure in those who ride the fence.

“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
James 4:4-5

“Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
1 John 2:15

Christians straddling the fence are trying to serve two masters and they are miserable sinners.

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.” Matthew 6:24

On The Fence, Christians Fail To Take A Stand

“He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
James 1:8 ESV

People On The Fence Are Really Undecided

“And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.”
Acts 24:25

Once you get comfortable on that fence, you can easily stay there right into hell.

“How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.”
I Kings 18:17

“To the angel (divine messenger) of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the trusted and faithful and true Witness, the Beginning and Origin of God’s creation: ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold (invigorating, refreshing) nor hot (healing, therapeutic); I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm (spiritually useless), and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth [rejecting you with disgust]. Because you say, “I am rich, and have prospered and grown wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked [without hope and in great need], I counsel you to buy from Me gold that has been heated red hot and refined by fire so that you may become truly rich; and white clothes [representing righteousness] to clothe yourself so that the shame of your nakedness will not be seen; and healing salve to put on your eyes so that you may see. Those whom I [dearly and tenderly] love, I rebuke and discipline [showing them their faults and instructing them]; so be enthusiastic and repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, your sinful behavior—seek God’s will].” Revelation 3:14-19 AMP

“Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6 ESV

Only One Way Works Out In God’s Kingdom – To Be All In

"Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord,“Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 19:1-10
