Love God

What is the most important thing?

What things could we all do that would be of the most benefit to us spiritually?

“Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.  One of them, an expert in the Law, tested [Jesus] with this question: ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments’.” Matthew 22:34-40

Two things: Love God... Love Others

But what does it look like to really love God?

“If you love me, you will obey what I command.” John 14:15
“This is love for God: to obey His commands.  And His commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world.” 1 John 5:3

They are burdensome if we don’t have or allow the Holy Spirit to guide us.

“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26

Anything less than instant obedience is disobedience.

“Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief’!” Mark 9:24

1. We must value, listen, and obey the Holy Spirit.

In the world, as we know it, everyone loves in the way that is right in his own eyes.

We desperately need the Holy Spirit!

2. We desperately need to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul & mind.

“If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins.” Benjamin Franklin
“Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.” Psalm 73:25

Will you enjoy Him completely for Who He is?

His path for you is not as a burden servant, but as a beloved friend.

“I don’t call you servants any longer, because servants don’t know what their master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because everything I heard from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15 CEB
