Seven Stages of God’s Presence:

1.       Eden

2.       Covenant

3.       Exodus

4.       Tabernacle

5.       Incarnation

6.       Pentecost

7.       New Creation

“God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24

DOVE

“As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.  At that moment Heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.  And a voice from Heaven said, ’This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased’.” John 4:24

WATER

“Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.  Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14

WIND

“The wind blows wherever it pleases.  You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.  So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:8

WINE

“Some made fun of them and said, ‘They have had too much wine’.  Then Peter stood up [and said], ‘These men are not drunk as you suppose’.” Acts 2:13-15

“Do not be drunk on wine which leads to debauchery, instead be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18

Frederick Buechner
“Wine is booze, which means it is dangerous and drunk-making.  It makes the timid brave and the reserved amorous.  It loosens the tongue and breaks the ice, especially when served in a loving cup.  It kills germs.  As symbols go, it is a rather splendid one.”

OIL

“...God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power . . .” Acts 10:38
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach Good News to the poor...” Isaiah 61:1

FIRE

“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” John 3:11-12

“Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from Heaven and filled the whole house where the disciples were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them.” Acts 2:2-4

“Our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:29

“But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire... He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify... and refine them like gold and silver.” Malachi 3:2-4

““Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Isaiah 6:5-7
