We are going to find in every case hope springs anew from the isolation. Pastor Craig discussed why Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den? There are times when some people are just not going to like you because of what you stand for.

Discussion Questions

1.   Open this time of discussion by asking for thoughts and responses to this week’s sermon.

2.  Pastor Craig discussed persecution as a follower of Christ. Daniel faced persecution by the Satraps, discuss ways you have been persecuted?

3.  Daniel was persistent in his relationship with God, when was the last time persistence paid off for you?

4.  What is the most persistently you have ever prayed for something? Was your prayer answered? What did you learn through that process?

5.  What effect did God's deliverance of Daniel have on Darius?

6. What does God’s deliverance of Daniel teach us about God?

7.  We know from life that God does not always rescue the faithful from earthly harm. If God does not respond in a miraculous way, how should His followers respond?

Moving Forward

Thank God that He honors our persistence and answers our prayers in the face of opposition and difficulty. Pray that we would be persistent in our obedience and prayers while trusting in God with both faith and humility.

Changing Your Mind

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for, in the same way, they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Matthew 5:10-12

 Key Scriptures

John 3:20-21 NIV

“Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it maybe seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”

2 Timothy 3:10-14 NIV

“You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch,Iconium, and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of because you know those from whom you learned it.”

Matthew 24:4-9

“ Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.

9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.”

1 Corinthians 6:6

“But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!”

Psalms 119:84-87 NIV

“How long must your servant wait? When will you punish my persecutors? The arrogant dig pits to trap me, contrary to your law. All your commands are trustworthy; help me, for I am being persecuted without cause. They almost wiped me from the earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts.”

Daniel 6:18-23 NIV

“Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night without eating and without any entertainment being brought to him. And he could not sleep. At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?”Daniel answered, “May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.” The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.”

Acts 20:23-25

"I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace. Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again"

Matthew 5:10-12 NIV

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
