Introduction

If we do not know who we are, we’ll never know how we ought to live. God’s promise is true: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). If you have given your life to Christ, you are a new creation − whether you feel like it or not. What does this mean? What happens to us when we believe in Christ? In this series, we are looking at seven gifts God gives you when you commit your life to Christ. The first thing that happens when we give our lives to Christ is that God gives us a new relationship.

Discussion Questions

(The goal is to grow in our relationship with Christ and each other. It is ok if you don’t cover every question.)

1.      The title of this series is,“New Beginnings.” Name one thing in your life that you wish could be made new.

2.      Ask a volunteer to read 2 Corinthians 5:16-17. When you hear the statement, “Jesus came to make all things new,” how do you respond? Why is there such hope in that statement?

3.      Why did Paul call anyone who is a Christian a new creation? What new things have come?

4.      In what ways are you different from who you were before becoming a follower of Christ?

5.      What are the some of the characteristics of a follower of Jesus? What “new things”does a believer experience?

6.      Who are the people in your circle of influence who may never have clearly heard this message of salvation (New Creation)?

7.      What is a feasible next step you can take to share the message of salvation with them?

Moving Forward

When we are a new creation God hears our prayers. “Now this is the confidence we have before Him: whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:14 CSB

Changing Your Mind

Now that we are Christians, from the moment we receive Christ into our lives, we have a new relationship with God and a new life. “But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12 CSB

Prayer

Pray to close your group, thank God for making you a new creation. Allow participants to sharenames of lost friends or family members that the group can pray for together. Spend time praying specifically for those people. Close by asking God to give each person an urgency for the lost and a passion for the gospel.
