Are Angels Still At Work?

In this series, we will examine some of the mysteries of the Kingdom. What does it mean to be “seated in heaven with a Christ?” Are angels still at work? What did Jesus mean when he said, “to you, it has been given to understand the mysteries of the Kingdom?

Introduction

This week we continue our series on Mysteries: The unseen realm. We are humans and sometimes it can be difficult to wrap our heads around what is happening in the spiritual world. The fact is we are more spiritual than physical although most doubt this, and sadly many Christians don't live with this as their primary worldview. We live horizontal lives mostly concerned with our physical wants, needs, and desires. The Bible says to “set our minds on things above.” Are angels still at work today?

Discussion Questions

1. Have you ever truly been desperate to understand more about God and what He was doing? How did you approach God in this time?

2. Have you ever or are you currently fasting from something? If so, what was that experience like?

3. Have a volunteer read Daniel 10:10-14. What do we understand about the effectiveness of prayer in these verses?

4. What do we learn about supernatural beings through Daniel’s encounter?

5. Why is it important to recognize our own inability to stand spiritually? What happens to us when we think we have the ability to withstand temptation in our own power?

6. What does Paul mean when he writes that our battle is not with flesh and blood? How should that awareness influence how and who we fight?

7.  What are some practical ways that we can continually posture our hearts and minds before God? What are ways that you can better seek God in your daily life and posture yourself to hear what He has to say?

Moving Forward

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

Changing Your Mind

Humans are primarily physical beings, but with a spiritual aspect. The greatest thing we can learn from the holy angels is their instant, unquestioning obedience to God’s commands.

Prayer

Pray that you might reflect the heart of Daniel in your daily life, constantly and fervently seeking Him. Pray that you would be diligent in daily obedience. Pray for those whose lives and struggles burden your heart.
