Mysteries of the Kingdom

God's Will

In this series, we will examine some of the mysteries of the Kingdom. What does it mean to be “seated in heaven with a Christ?” Are angels still at work? What did Jesus mean when he said, “to you, it has been given to understand the mysteries of the Kingdom?

Introduction

This week we continue our series on The Mysteries of the Kingdom. We are humans and sometimes it can be difficult to wrap our heads around what is happening in the spiritual world. The fact is we are more spiritual than physical and sadly many Christians don't live with this as their primary worldview. We live horizontal lives mostly concerned with our physical wants, needs, and desires. The Bible says to “set our minds on things above.” Today we will look at the mystery of God's will.

Discussion Questions

(The goal is to grow in our relationship with Christ and each other. It is ok if you don’t cover every question.)

1. What was the boldest thing you did to get to know your spouse or a person you have had a relationship with? Share a brief story with the group.

2. How many of you have struggled with growing in your relationship with God? What do you usually do when you don’t feel like you are growing closer to Him?

3. Have a volunteer read 1 Corinthians 2:7-10. What influences tend to blind people to the revelation of God’s mystery—salvation to all people through Jesus’ death and resurrection?

4. What qualities or actions exemplify spiritual maturity to you?

5. What is the relationship between spiritual maturity, the Holy Spirit, and the ability to understand God’s wisdom?

6. Have a volunteer read 1 Corinthians 2:11-16. What concepts did Paul contrast in these verses? What lessons in this passage apply to your life?

7. What does it mean to have the mind of Christ? When in your spiritual journey did the“mind of Christ” (v. 16) start to make a difference in your values, choices, and decisions?

Moving Forward

In its fullest sense, the “mystery of God” is God’s plan of salvation through Jesus. We would never have been able to comprehend the way to eternal life without the coming of Jesus, His death and resurrection. Christ is the “mystery” revealed to those who believe as is the mystery of “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27

How Then Should We Live?

"Dear friends we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when he appears, we will be like him because we will see him as he is. And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself just as he is pure." 1 John 3:2-3 CSB

Prayer

Pray that your group members would continue to grow in the mind of Christ and would be more attentive to the Spirit’s work in their lives this week. Pray that your group members would have a renewed desire to study Scripture for the sake of growing closer to God this week.
