Key Scriptures

If you address as Father, the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in [reverent] fear [of Him] and with profound respect for Him throughout the time of your stay on earth. 1 Peter 1:17 AMP

This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:19-20 NLT

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalms 90:12 NIV

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment Hebrews 9:27 NIV

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14 NIV

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • Death can be a very sensitive topic for discussion, but has anyone experienced the death of a close friend or relative and may want to share how they felt.
  • Have you given any thought to your own mortality? Not to focus on the morbid side of death, but what do you think about the after-life?
  • When or if faced with a serious crisis what support can you rely on for comfort?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Which part of the message was most impactful for you and why?
  • If you were faced with the news that you had only a few months to live, what would you do different?
  • What’s keeping you from living that way now?
  • Do you think that the persecuted church with the constant threat of death somehow influenced how the gospel spread? How?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • PC spoke of having hope and faith. Do you feel you have hope and faith if faced with a great crisis?
  • If faced with days or months to live, what would be your greatest regret?
  • Taking inventory of your soul and spiritual state, are you prepared?
  • If your closest friends for loved ones where asked the same question about you, would they agree?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

Jesus, thank you that you have blessed me with life and health. Thank you that I have friends and those around me that care for me in times of need. Father help me to be someone that you can use to bring hope to someone else. Help me daily to be mindful of my time here on earth and to redeem the time for your glory. In Your’ name I pray, amen.

  • What about me? Ask yourself if your thoughts and/or your actions are evil.

Holy God, I surrender to You my heart and my mind for cleansing. I know You desire for us to love You wholeheartedly and willfully. Keep my mind from evil thoughts. Steer it away from the influences of wicked imaginations. Help me take every thought of mine captive to Your obedience, that I may experience joy in You. Put a hedge of protection around my mind. Help me will my thoughts to dwell on what is good, true, and positive. Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Today I commit my life to Jesus to live each day as though it is my last.
  • I will look for ways to redeem the time and to make the most of my time with those that count the most in my life.
  • This week I will take the time to inventory my life and allow God to point out areas I need to address.
