The Parable of The Talents

When Jesus addressed a crowd, he ALWAYS spoke in stories and illustrations. Why is that? He knew that stories are like velcro to our minds. With just a few words he communicated such large truths. So, come take a look at his Parables!

Introduction

This week Pastor Craig discusses with us the parable of the talents. This parable of Jesus is telling us much more than just wise financial investing. He is demonstrating to us that we have been entrusted with something of great value to Him. God has placed talents and abilities in each of us.

Discussion Questions

1. Would you say your priorities revolve mostly around yourself or someone else? Explain. Have your priorities changed over time? How so?

2. Have a volunteer Read Matthew 25:14-15. Since we’re each given talents in different measures, does that mean some of us aren’t expected to work as hard as others? Explain.

3. When someone goes on a journey, what can you infer about the future plans of that person? Why do you think Jesus wants to remind us that He is returning one day?

4. Read Matthew 25:16-18 - What is scary about going all out for Jesus with the talents He’s entrusted to you?

5. In the parable, the servant who buried the talents is called “evil,” loses everything, and is thrown into the “outer darkness.” What, then, can we say about those who truly know the Lord?

6. What about our church and this group, specifically, would be different if we were to give our full attention to God’s priorities?

7. What is God calling you to do as a result of this week’s passage? How can this group help you in that?

Moving Forward

Be productive, there is great joy found in productivity. God gave man meaningful work before the fall. Work was a large part of the perfect world. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Genesis 2:15

Changing Your Mind

As a believer, doing these things is metaphorical to developing our gifts/talents during our lifetime.  God doesn’t want us to live our lives with vision only for the temporal, then we don’t plan, make provisions or even think about the reason why He created us, we are being selfish. Our goal is heaven one day but even that is not the end game, our journey is truly just beginning on the other side!

Prayer

Close in prayer. Thank God for entrusting you with His priorities until Jesus returns. Commit to be His faithful servant in the days ahead.
