Key Scriptures

Therefore, don’t worry and say, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’ Gentiles long for all these things. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them. Instead, desire first and foremost God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:31-33 CEB

I have asked one thing from the LORD— it’s all I seek: to live in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, seeing the LORD’s beauty and constantly adoring his temple. Psalms 27:4 CEB

One of them, a legal expert, tested him. “Teacher, what is the greatest commandment in the Law?” He replied, “ You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:35-38 CEB

Bring the whole tenth-part to the storage house so there might be food in my house. Please test me in this, says the LORD of heavenly forces. See whether I do not open all the windows of the heavens for you and empty out a blessing until there is enough. Malachi 3:10 CEB

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • PC pointed out that “It is said that 40% of all we do is a habit.” Would you agree? Do you find that true in your life?
  • “Keystone” habits are ones that are foundational to other habits. Can you think of some positive habits you have that build on other good habits?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Which part of the message was most impactful for you and why?
  • PC mentioned a “keystone habit” in scripture – do you remember? Matt 6:31-33
  • Why do you think this is a “keystone habit”?
  • Can you think of others in scripture? (Matthew 22:35-38, Malachi 3:10, how about Matt 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.)

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • What’s your greatest “keystone habit” and why?
  • What do you think influences our habits the most?
  • PC gave several verses on building the habit of placing God priority in our finances – If you do this, have you noticed that God is faithful in meeting your needs?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

Jesus, I place you and your kingdom first in my life. Help me to build strong habits in my life that bring glory to you. Show me by your word and Holy Spirit where I need to build better habits. Give me the strength to stick to the things I resolve to do to better my life for you. In Your’ name I pray, amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • This week take note of habits you practice in your life. Especially ones you would like to change.
  • What can you do to replace the bad ones?
  • Ask God to show you areas you need to strengthen and work on building new “Keystone” habits in those areas.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask a close friend or your spouse to point out habits you may need to change that you are not aware of.
