The Spirit of Lawlessness

We are currently in a season when even before one labor pain has stopped another one has begun. How should the Body of Christ respond and act during this time of crisis and unrest?

Introduction

We are currently in a season when even before one labor pain has stopped another one has begun. While still fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, the demonic insidious spirit of racism has manifested itself.  This has been immediately followed by the spirit of lawlessness that has hijacked peaceful protests against racial injustice. Those on the streets who are violent and destructive are not truly fighting for racial justice. The proof of this is that they are hurting that cause, not helping it. A spirit of lawlessness is manifesting itself in our world and using people for evil.

Discussion Questions

1.      How do you generally react to end times predictions?

2.      What are some bad things we have seen happen this week? What are some positive things that have come out of recent events in the news?

3.     Can you identify different ways in which the spirit of lawlessness is here today?

4.     What does Paul mean in Ephesians 6:12-13 when he writes that our battle is not with flesh and blood? How should that awareness influence how and who we fight?

5.     What did Paul tell Christians to put on? What did he say would happen when we do that?

6.     How can we live expectantly? What might that look like in practice this week?

7.      How might you better prepare yourself for spiritual attacks that will come against you this week?

Moving Forward

Jesus is going to return soon! The bigger picture is are you ready for His return? Where will you spend eternity? Heaven or hell? Jesus is the only cure for sin, and He is coming soon.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NLT

Changing Your Mind

For every follower of Christ be reminded today of this promise, Lookup! He is coming!! Work while it is day, be on fire for God, go all in. Renounce laziness and sloppy living. Be found ready and working when he returns.

1 Thessalonians 5:4 NLT “But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.”

Key Scriptures

Ephesians 6:12 NLT “We are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 NLT“Now, dear brothers and sisters, let us clarify some things about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we will be gathered to meet him. Don’t be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don’t believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us. Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction. He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God.”

2 Thessalonians 2:7-8 NLT “For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out of the way. Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the splendor of his coming."

2 Thessalonians 15 NLT “With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter.”

Ephesians 6:13 NLT“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.”

Philippians 1:27 NLT “Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.”

Matthew 24:12 ESV “And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.”

1 Thessalonians 5:4 NLT “But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.”
